About Us

Discover the story behind Develop & Dispose and our mission to make home film development safer, easier, and more sustainable.

Our Mission & Vision

Make Chemical Disposal Simple and Accessible

We created an interactive map to help film photographers locate safe disposal options for used chemicals. No more guesswork—just clear, practical answers you can act on.

A Culture of Responsible Creation

We imagine a future where film photography and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. Where knowing how to properly dispose of chemicals is just as important as knowing how to use them.

Support Beginners Through Clear, Thoughtful Guidance

From setting up a home lab to understanding photographic film processing chemicals, our beginner-friendly guides break down each step of the process with care and clarity. We believe learning to develop film should be exciting, not intimidating.

A Slower, More Intentional Practice

In a world that moves fast, we want to protect a space where slowness is a strength. A place for those who develop with purpose, print with patience, and carry their practice with care—from the first frame to the final rinse.

Meet the Founder

Hi, I’m Ruihan (Rae) Fu—the person behind Develop & Dispose. I’m currently pursuing a Master of Science in Digital Social Media at USC Annenberg, but long before I began building websites and exploring digital strategy, I was standing in the darkroom, developing rolls of film by hand.

My journey with film photography began years ago, shaped by a formal background in photography, professional training, and countless hours working in my undergrad darkroom. There, I didn’t just learn the magic of the chemical process, also saw its environmental cost. I became deeply aware of the responsibility that comes with this craft: how to handle photo chemicals with care, how to collect waste safely, and most importantly, how to make this beautiful, tactile process more sustainable in a modern world.

Develop & Dispose started as my capstone project, but it reflects something far more personal—a belief that film photography, no matter how nostalgic or niche, can evolve in ways that are mindful, informed, and environmentally responsible. With this platform, I aim to bring together film photographers who care about their art and the planet, offering tools, guides, and resources to support both.
